Pailan World School student, Sayan Sain, receives Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam IGNITE award from the President of Indi
Sayan Sain, a student of class 9 of Pailan World School, was the only recipient from Bengal to receive the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam IGNITE award from the Hon’ble President of India on 7th November, 2016. He also received The Balrampur Chini Mills Awards for Outstanding Talent (innovator) at The Telegraph School Awards for Excellence 2016.
The innovative idea was born from an incident at home. Sayan was getting ready for school and as he opened the door in a hurry, his father who was standing on the other side was injured. This incident made Sayan think.
As he pondered over the incident, he came up with the idea of a sensory device that can be installed near a door. He shared the concept on the National Innovation Foundation – India website this April and made it to a list of 33 budding innovators who were conferred the prestigious award by the President of India. Sayan was the only one from Bengal.
‘It was an opportunity of a lifetime to demonstrate the device in front of the President’ beamed Sayan.

COMPASS 2007
Abhilakshya, the inter-school fest
We can be especially proud of our teams who contested the events. Without doubt, the Pailan name shone through their efforts.
The team who appeared in the fashion show displayed a wonderful range of women’s gowns and men’s apparel. Ms Suchandra designed a wonderful range of clothing using recyclable materials such as newspaper, leaves and wood shavings sewn into cloth. The team modelled the clothing with aplomb of professionals and this combination caused the judges to rise and give a standing ovation to the team for their efforts. Deservedly, the fashion team won the first prize, and were highly commended by the panel for their superior presentation.
The school’s rock band did not let us down either. In competition against bigger and more experienced bands, they won the second prize with their exciting and popular music.
A further success was our Head Boy, Ronangon Chowdhury. He competed in the challenging Abhilakshya Grand event, where he had to participate in a group discussion, respond to questions on a controversial issue and perform an entertaining item, where he chose to sing a French song, unaccompanied. He won the second prize.
